Flat-cut vs fabricated metal letters
The two constructions can share the same front artwork but create very different depth, shadow, welding work, packaging and installation requirements.
Specification decisions
| Decision | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Desired depth | Flat-cut parts are limited by sheet thickness; fabricated letters create intentional return depth and stronger shadow. |
| Logo geometry | Very small letters or tight internal spaces can be difficult to fabricate with returns even when they are easy to laser cut flat. |
| Finish continuity | Fabricated letters require weld and edge finishing so faces and returns look consistent. |
| Packing | Deeper letters occupy more volume and need support against crushing or bending during transport. |
Depth changes the design language
A flat logo can read as precise and graphic; a built-up logo behaves more like an architectural object. The choice should follow the viewing distance and interior concept rather than assuming deeper is always better.
Fabrication limits appear at small sizes
Returns need space for bending, welding and finishing. Tiny counters and acute corners may require design adjustment or a flat construction.
Installation data should travel with the parts
Stud coordinates, templates and letter codes help the local installer reproduce the intended spacing without measuring the logo from scratch.
What we need to quote correctly
- Approximate dimensions or a scale drawing
- Quantity and whether this is a one-off or repeat programme
- Indoor, normal outdoor, coastal, pool-side or other exposure
- Logo, artwork, PDF, photograph or reference drawing where available
- Delivery country and postcode so the landed route can be evaluated
Final material, manufacturing method, lead time and delivered price are confirmed in the formal quotation after the specification is reviewed. Website guidance is intended to reduce ambiguity before quoting.
